Casey Mitchell Is Recipient Of Lancaster County Commissioners Award Of Excellence For September, 2012

Casey Mitchell, a Corrections Sergeant for Lancaster County Corrections, received the Commissioners Award of Excellence Award for September, 2012 at the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting today. Mr. Mitchell was nominated by Ken Prey, Corrections Lieutenant, in the category of Productivity.

In his nomination form, Prey noted "Even though Casey is deserving of the award for his day to day job performance while on shift, on this occasion I am nominating him for his willingness to take on extra duties without being askedR. Casey found an opportunity for savings in a review of shift coverage numbers. As a result of this, the process of deciding when positions need covered due to leave and vacancies was changed, reducing staff hours.

Additionally, Casey developed a computerized calendar to log available hours for On-Call Officers. With the use of this calendar Casey was able to change how On-Call Officers were notified of available hours. He encouraged them to check their email and started to regularly email them this calendar. Using the calendar, when an On-Call Officer notices a shift they want to work is available they can call a supervisor and sign up for that shift, reducing the time required by Corrections staff to find available hours for the On-Call Officer asking for a shift.

Deb Schorr, Lancaster County Board of Commissioners Chair, stated "The Board is pleased to recognize Casey Mitchell for his initiative and leadership in developing a way for the Corrections Department to change processes that were very time-consuming, making them easier and more efficient. We applaud him and appreciate his efforts to help not only Corrections but Lancaster County as a whole as we constantly strive to streamline and contain costs. On behalf of the Board I congratulate Casey on this award". The Commissioners Award of Excellence award recognizes employees who consistently provide outstanding service and work that demonstrates exemplary personal commitment to Lancaster County.
