  • Consolidation Task Force — 12/31

    The City of Lincoln-Lancaster County Consolidation Task Force was established by the Lincoln City Council, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners, and Mayor Chris Beutler in March of 2013 to study consolidation and cooperation opportunities between the City and County.

  • County Offices Closed — 12/23

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2013, and in observance of New Year's Day on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.

  • Make Sure Your Voter Registration is Current — 12/17

    Lincoln - In preparation for the February 11, 2014, Lincoln Public Schools Special Election, Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively is reminding voters to make sure that their voter registration is current. The Lincoln Public Schools Election will be conducted through the mail. No polling locations will be used for this election. Ballots will be mailed to the voter's address on file with the election office.

  • Community Mental Health Center Transition — 12/10

    With the approval of an agreement under which Lincoln Family Services (LFS) will provide staffing and management services, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners has taken an important step forward in the transition of the Community Mental Health Center to LFS.

  • Commissioner’s Award of Excellence — 12/10

    Joni Bates and Jessica Vice received the Commissioners Award of Excellence Award for November, 2013 at the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting today. They were nominated in the category of Customer Relations by Monica Rigoni, Lancaster County Department of Corrections.

  • County Offices Closed November 28 and 29 — 11/27

    In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, Lancaster County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, 2013.

  • Treasurer Offers Drop-Off / Pick-Up — 11/26

    Andy Stebbing, Lancaster County Treasurer, announced today that a secure drop-off box has been installed at the main DMV facility. The box will serve a variety of functions. First we hope citizens will utilize the box as another convenient option to renew their vehicle registrations. Simply complete the form located next to the box and leave your vehicle information, a check, and proof of insurance in a provided envelope.

  • Commissioner’s Award of Excellence — 11/20

    Janice Maginn, RN at the Lancaster County Mental Health Crisis Center received the Commissioners Award of Excellence Award for October, 2013 at the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting today. Ms. Maginn was nominated by her supervisor, Anita Leonard, RN, in the category of Valor.

  • County Offices Closed Veterans Day — 11/7

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2013 in observance of Veterans Day.

  • Treasurer Switches Banking — 10/31

    County Treasurer, Andy Stebbing, stated the Treasurer's Office has utilized the same banking services vendor for more than 13 years. "In a continued effort to be more transparent, efficient and to save money, in June of this year, banks were encouraged to bid on a multi-year contract with the Treasurer's Office." After a detailed evaluation process comprising of written questions and oral interviews, US Bank was selected by a panel of experts. Today the County Board voted 4-0 to move forward with a contract and praised Stebbing and the committee for their hard work.

  • DMV at 46th and R St Open at 7 a.m. — 10/16

    Beginning Monday November 4th, 2013 the DMV at 46th and R Streets will open the lobby doors at 7 a.m. "This is something we've wanted to explore and are now capable of giving it a try. I want to see what happens." Lancaster County Treasurer, Stebbing said. "Although the drive through presently opens at 7 a.m, there always seems to be a line of people waiting at our front door to open at 7:30 a.m. I want the routine visits to our DMV to be on the top of the "to do list" not at the bottom with root canals. This is the only facility we are going to test this on right now."

  • Accepting Resumes for County Engineer — 10/15

    Don Thomas, Lancaster County Engineer, has announced his retirement effective December 14, 2013. Per Nebraska law, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners will appoint a replacement for the remainder of the current term of office.

  • County Offices Closed for Labor Day — 8/28

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2013 in observance of Labor Day.

  • Palmyra Special Mail-in Bond Election — 8/19

    Lincoln - The Lancaster County Election Commissioner will conduct a Special Mail-in Bond Election for the Palmyra School District OR-1 on Tuesday, September 10, 2013. The special election will be conducted entirely by mail.

  • Increase in City Wheel Tax — 8/15

    Lancaster County Treasurer Andy Stebbing wants to remind the residents of Lincoln that the city wheel tax will increase September 1. The increase will be an additional cost of $5.00 for cars, $2.50 for motorcycles and $7.50 for pick-up trucks. Large commercial trucks of 8 tons or more will increase by $25.00.

  • Business/Farm: DMV Expansion Letter — 8/9

    The Lancaster County Treasurer’s Office – Motor Vehicles Division would like to offer the Fleet Desk Services to all businesses with ten fleet vehicles or more, or any farm operation regardless of fleet size. As part of the Fleet Desk participation at our DMV, we offer consolidation of all the fleet vehicles into one certain month for the vehicle renewals. In addition to processing the final costs before payment, the DMV will also offer a direct line to the Fleet Desk Clerk to address concerns and answer questions. We think this expansion of the fleet group will help many small businesses and farmers, while allowing us to spread the work over the year instead of concentrated months.

  • New Payment Option for Property Taxes — 7/22

    A new payment option is being offered for Real Estate and Personal Property tax payers, Lancaster County Treasurer Andy Stebbing announced today. "Our office recently started a program to receive home bill payments electronically. The County Treasurer's Office receives approximately 5,000 home bill payment checks each year for real estate and personal property payments. Now we can receive these payments electronically, it offers constituents another secure and convenient payment option."

  • County Offices Closed for 4th of July — 7/2

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2013 for the 4th of July Holiday.

  • Lower e-Processing Fees for Online Property Tax Payments — 6/28

    "I am pleased to announce that recently our office was able to reduce transaction fees from $3 to $1.50 for each electronic payment debited from a bank account to make property tax payments. Electronic payments debited from a checking or savings account allow taxpayers a secure, convenient, low cost option to paying their property taxes. Receiving money electronically allows government to operate more efficiently," said County Treasurer Stebbing.

  • Property Valuation Protest Filing Deadline — 6/27

    Lancaster County Clerk Dan Nolte is reminding property owners that the deadline to file a property valuation protest is Monday, July 1st.

  • Request For Proposal - Banking — 6/14
    County Treasurer Andy Stebbing announced today that he has placed the County Treasurer Banking Contract out for bid. For the past dozen years the Treasurer's Office has used the same banking institution.

  • Property Valuation Protests — 6/6

    Lancaster County Clerk Dan Nolte is reminding citizens that they have until Monday, July 1st this year to protest the valuation of their property. Properties that had a change in value were notified in writing by the assessor the first week in June.

  • County Offices Closed for Memorial Day — 5/22

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2013 in observance of Memorial Day.

  • Employees Honored For Years Of Service — 5/21

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners honored Lancaster County 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 50 year employees this morning at a breakfast. Lancaster County Board Chairman Larry Hudkins thanked them for their years of service, stating "Lancaster County has so many loyal and dedicated employees who consistently do a good job and provide great customer service. The Board appreciates this opportunity to recognize those who have reached certain longevity milestones."

  • County Board appoints Troy Hawk, Clerk of the District Court — 5/10

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners announces the appointment of Troy Hawk as Clerk of the District Court. This appointment follows the recent retirement notice of the current Clerk of the District Court, Sue Kirkland.

  • SW 12th & W. Denton Road Construction Timetable — 5/9

    The Lancaster County Engineer and the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners approved a revision to the construction timetable for the West Denton Road construction project. The revision allows the contractor to focus on the intersection of SW 12th and W. Denton Road with the goal of the intersection being the first portion of the project to be completed, in late June, depending upon the weather. This will help reduce congestion and dust on adjacent roads.

  • Rural Business Addresses — 5/7

    In February of 2013 the Lancaster County Board was contacted by 911 Emergency Services regarding a public safety issue involving the lack of address signs for businesses located in the vicinity of Saltillo Road and Highway 77. Specifically, a Lancaster County Sheriff deputy was dispatched to a business located at the address of 1066 Saltillo Road. Upon arrival at the scene, the deputy was unable to find the property in question. The business was located on a 1/3 mile long private drive serving multiple businesses, with a range of addresses from 1000 to1082 Saltillo Road. An aerial photograph of this area is included with this report as Attachment A. Address signs are not posted at the entrance to the private drive nor at the individual businesses. Based on these facts, a request was made to post blue address signs at the entrance to the private drive. Recognizing that the lack of address signs for rural businesses is a county-wide public safety issue, the County Board organized a committee to examine the question and make a recommendation on a policy governing business addresses.

  • Election Commission to be Open Additional Hours — 5/2

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively announced today that the Lancaster County Election Commissioner's Office will be open extra hours for early/absentee voting for the May 7th General Election.

  • Voter Registration Deadline is Friday, April 26th — 4/23

    Lincoln -- Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively today reminded voters that the last day to register to vote for the City of Lincoln General Election is Friday, April 26th. However, voters must register to vote in person. The date to have a mail-in voter registration application form postmarked was Friday, April 19th.

    To show how your Lancaster County tax dollars are spent, we have developed this calculator which breaks down your County taxes only by General Fund agency. However, the County's portion of the tax statement also includes the County Building Fund and the County Mental Health Center which are not included in this calculator. Any Nebraska resident who will be 18 on or before November 5, 2013, has moved, changed his or her name, or would like to change their political party affiliation, may register to vote.

  • Clerk Of The District Court Vacancy — 4/9

    Sue Kirkland, Clerk of the District Court for Lancaster County, has announced her retirement effective May 31, 2013. Per Nebraska law, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners will appoint a replacement for the remainder of the current term of office.

  • West Denton Road Closing — 4/3

    On March 13, 2013, West Denton Road officially closed for reconstruction from S. Folsom to S.W. 70th streets. The official detour is U.S. Hwy 77 north to Van Dorn Street. Van Dorn Street west to S.W. 84th Street. S.W. 84th Street south to West Denton Road.

  • Election Commission Open Additional Hours — 4/3

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively announced today that the Lancaster County Election Commissioner's Office will be open extra hours for early/absentee voting for the April 9th Primary Election.

  • Sign up for a tour of the new Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility — 3/27

    The new Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility will house its first “inmates” April 4-6 and we’d like you and your organization’s members to be among them!

    Citizens are needed to act as inmates to test the new building’s procedures and systems before the actual inmates are transferred. The 3-day program “Do Some Time ... for the littlest victims of crime” has a secondary purpose: raising funds to support Operation Santa Claus & the Child Advocacy Center.

  • Voter Registration Deadline is Friday, March 29th — 3/27

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively today reminded voters that the last day to register to vote for the City of Lincoln Primary Election is Friday, March 29th. However, voters must register to vote in person. The date to have a mail-in voter registration application form postmarked was Friday, March 22nd.

  • Early Voting for City Primary Election Begins — 3/26

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively also reminded voters that early/absentee voting for the Lincoln City Primary Election has started. Shively reminded voters that state law permits any registered voter to vote an early/absentee ballot. However, voters must request that ballot in writing.

  • Severe Weather Awareness Week Begins March 25 — 3/20

    Lancaster County Emergency Management Director Doug Ahlberg today urged all residents to create or review their families' severe weather plans as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week March 25 through 31. Ahlberg also encouraged the public to attend the free severe weather symposium "WeatherFest" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6 at Hardin Hall, 3301 Holdrege. WeatherFest is a family event focusing on weather-related issues.

    Lincoln -- Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively reminded potential candidates for Lincoln City Council and Lincoln Airport Authority that the filing deadline for the April 9th Lincoln City Primary Election is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8th.

    Lancaster County offices will be closed on Monday, February 18, 2013 in observance of Presidents' Day.

  • Lancaster County Board Meeting Time Change — 2/8

    Dan Nolte, Lancaster County Clerk, is reminding citizens that beginning Tuesday, February 12th, the weekly meeting of the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners will begin at 10:30 a.m. Previously Board meetings began at 9:30 a.m.

  • Commissioner's Award of Excellence — 2/5

    The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners announced the recipient of their 2012 Annual Commissioners Award of Excellence is Jason Workman, a Juvenile Detention Officer at the Lancaster County Youth Services Center. Jason began working for Lancaster County on February 24, 1997, and was nominated for this award by Johanna Machmer, a fellow employee at the Youth Services Center. He is recognized for his outstanding work and dedication to the services the Youth Services Center provides.

  • Filing Deadlines for Lincoln City Elections — 1/31

    Lincoln - Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively announced today that filing deadlines for the April 9th Lincoln City Primary Election are quickly approaching. Shively also reminded potential candidates that filing deadlines are different for the Lincoln Board of Education than they are for Lincoln City Council and Lincoln Airport Authority.

  • Citizens Sought for Task Force on City-County Consolidation — 1/22

    The Lincoln City Council, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners and Mayor Chris Beutler today announced their intent to form a Task Force to study the possible consolidation of City and County agencies. The advisory group will make recommendations on consolidation and cooperative opportunities.
