On September 8, 2020, Deputy Sheriff Troy Bailey and a second deputy went to
a residence to serve a protection order with exclusion to a known convicted felon. The protection order required that the felon be removed from the home. After almost an hour, the deputies were able to remove the confrontational and argumentative felon from the residence. Already under emotional stress from the line of duty death of Lincoln Police Officer Mario Herrera the day prior, Deputy Bailey completed his shift and went home where he later collapsed. Deputy Bailey was transported to the hospital and treated for a myocardial infarction. Deputy Bailey died three days later on September 11, 2020.
