Every year, the Lincoln- Lancaster Emergency Management Agency (LLCEMA) participates in the Uncle Sam Jam celebrating the Independence Day holiday. Uncle Sam Jam is a public, family-friendly event sponsored by the City of Lincoln.
For the Uncle Sam Jam, LLCEMA sets up a Mobile Operation Center (MOC) in Oak Lake Park to coordinate with other city agencies at the event. The coordination activities include:
- Providing weather updates to the organizers and event personnel
- Maintaining situational awareness and providing updates as needed
- Coordinating with security, first responders and other event personnel
- Working with the American Red Cross and other volunteers to promote hydration & wellness
- Providing a safe haven for lost children until they are reunited with their parents
- Distribution of general safety information to the public
- Deployment of two light towers in the park
