Welcome to the Lancaster County Treasurer

Pursuant to Nebraska State Statutes, the County Treasurer collects property taxes to be distributed to schools, fire districts, cities, villages, etc. In conjunction with the State Department of Motor Vehicles we also oversee over 300,000 motor vehicle registrations and titles.

Pilot Program

Lancaster County is participating in a pilot project with the National Association of Counties (NACo) and Visa Inc. that will evaluate the impact of increased electronic payments in our county. The study will show how many payment transactions are completed using cash or check versus electronic payment methods before, during and after implementation of the pilot project.

As part of the pilot program, if you are making a property tax payment and use a Visa debit card, your fee will be capped at $5. Please note this is for Visa debit cards only. All other credit cards will still incur a 2.35% e-processing fee. E-checks debited electronically from a checking account have a $1 flat service fee.

All fees charged to use credit cards and e-checks are retained by the payment processing company. The county does not retain any portion of the fees.
