When are the tornado sirens activated?

The three scenarios resulting in activation of the tornado sirens are:

  1. A tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service for Lancaster County
  2. A confirmed sighting of a tornado on the ground by two trained storm spotters
  3. Current weather conditions generate a legitimate life-safety issue necessitating a siren activation. Our network of outdoor warning sirens is intended for people who are outside and may not have access to other means of severe weather warning notification
