2. Is the Election Commissioner elected or appointed?

The Election Commissioner is appointed by the Governor. The Governor appoints Election Commissioners for a four-year term in counties with a population larger than 100,000. Currently, David J. Shively serves as Lancaster County Election Commissioner. His current term ends on September 6, 2023.

3. What qualifications are there for a person to vote in any election?

To vote in elections, persons must be:

• 18 years of age or older on General Election Day (first Tuesday, after first Monday in November)
• A citizen of the United States
• A resident of Nebraska
• Not convicted of a felony - if convicted, it has been at least two years since the completion of the sentence for the felony including any parole term
• Not to have been found mentally incompetent
